Blog Post #48- Absence of Score Within First Minute of Film

Within any film, score is a vital element to make the film more entertaining to the audience. Although my film does contain score, there is a portion of the film that does not contain any score, being the first minute of the film.

The first minute of my film does not have any score due to a couple of reasons. The first reason is that I wanted to create an environment of awkwardness for the first minute because if Alex's friends came over to party and there's no music playing it can be quite awkward. The second reason for this lack of score is because one of Alex's friends asks him to put on music so if he is asking for music to be put on the assumption can be made that there is currently no music or sound within the house. Since this a line and my film shows Alex turning on a speaker I realized that if there is score before this occurs it may be confusing to the audience so I thought that if there is no score before music gets turned on, it would make more sense to the audience.

The only sounds and sound effects present within this portion of my film is dialogue, footsteps, door knocks, and music from a game. The dialogue is present for the purpose of showing that Alex and his friends are having conversations at his house. The footsteps are to make the film appear more realistic to the audience. The door knocks are used to inform the audience that Alex's friends are now at his house. Finally, the music from the game that Alex is playing is used to signify to the audience that Alex is playing games to pass the time while waiting for his friends to arrive at his home.
