Blog Post #47- Adding Time Indicators

My short film has different scenes that within the story of the film, occur on separate days and times. To make the audience be aware of these changes in time, I decided that I need to add some indicators within my film that these time changes are occurring.

The first indicator for time that I made was a black screen that says, "a few hours later". I used this in between the scene of Alex lowering down the music and the scene of Alex's friends leaving his house. I put this into my film because I wanted to show that it has become very late within the time inside of the film which would then prompt Alex's friends to leave his house to go back to their own houses. Using the indicator will allow the audience to be informed of why Alex's friends are leaving and how much time has passed inside the world of the film.

My second indicator for the passing of time is between the scene of Alex reflecting on his life choices and him talking to his new friends. This indicator displays the text "months later...". My reasoning for making the amount of time that has passed multiple months is to show the audience that Alex has had time to make a decision on how he wants to continue his life and to show the audience that this decision will be a long term decision instead of a short term one. The "..." used within the indicator is there for the purpose of building some suspense to the audience because they don't know if Alex chose to make better decisions or if he continued his old ways.
