Blog Post #45- Choice of Score for the Speaker and Editing

Within the production process of my film, when I turned on the speaker for the film I did not actually play the music during the filming. The reasoning behind this is because I think that having the speaker actually playing audio during recording could mess up the audio of dialogue so I decided to edit score into my film using iMovie.

When deciding what to use for the song that would be played on the speaker, I had to think about what sets the vibe of the scene. I then realized that a Drake song would fit in because Drake is one of the most known music artists around the whole world. This decision also led me to change my script to have Jake tell Alex to put on some Drake to inform the audience of who the artist is for the music that is about to be put on. While looking for Drake songs to play, my decision was split between 4 options. These options were Rich Flex, Jimmy Cooks, Hotline Bling, and Headlines. As I was making my decision I was stuck between Hotline Bling and Headlines. I then looked into the lyrics and I saw that the song Headlines has a lyric that states "I had someone tell me I fell off, ooh, I needed that. And they want to see me pick back up". This influenced my choice because Since my film is about the main character improving him self the lyric would make sense because if someone fell off and picked back up that would mean that they improved.

While editing, I realized that there is a scene of the group of boys walking to the kitchen. Since the music is going over the clip and isn't actually in the scene filmed I realized that I needed to do something to make it sound more realistic. To do this, I made the audio fade out so that it sounds quieter as the boys go farther away from it.

Within my film, I Also have a scene between 2 individuals where one is talking inside and the other isn't. To make the song sound realistic, I made the audio louder in the shots that are taken inside while making the audio quieter in the shots that are taken outside.

The portrayal of a song playing from the speaker will help set the atmosphere of the film and it will make the film more entertaining and less awkward to the audience.
