Blog Post #34- Error Evaluations

Whenever something is in the process of getting created, it is almost impossible for it to be created perfectly without any errors or failures. Although this may be the case for basically everything, measures can be taken to prevent errors from occurring when creating things such as projects, or in my case a short film.

To know what to avoid when filming my project, I researched common errors that occur during filming for short films. One of the things that I found out is that short films are sometimes recorded with bad audio quality which can make the film sound "scratchy". Short films may also be filmed with improper lighting that does not create the vibe that the producer originally intended for the lighting to create or emphasize upon. Reflective surfaces also have to be considered because it can be very unprofessional to make the individual filming be visible in the final copy of the film to the audience because that can make the film feel way more unrealistic. If the script is too complicated, this can lead to actor confusion when filming scenes and this can elongate the amount of time it takes for production and it can make certain scenes have too much dialogue. Another error that is common is a lack of planning that makes filming way less coordinated because the producers wouldn't be going off of something such as a script or storyboard.

To prevent these errors, I have taken a few things into account. I will listen to each of my recordings after I film a scene to test the audio quality for the purpose of ensuring that the audio quality isn't "scratchy". I will also make sure that the lighting I use will invoke emotion and create an atmosphere for the audience while avoiding being caught in a reflective surface that may show devices such as the recording device that would be very unprofessional. I will make sure that my script is not over complicated so that the audience wont lose engagement and I will be creating my script for my project soon so that my actors can be coordinated when the day of filming comes around.
