Blog Post #27- Prop Testing

Within any film, props are always used to represent certain items that may not be available to be used by the film company or to preserve a limited budget. Within my film, I will be using a drink that resembles alcohol but is not alcohol for the purpose of portraying under age drinking within my film. A drink that isn't actually alcohol has to be used for my project because all of my actors including my self are currently under aged and are not able to drink alcohol legally. I tested 2 different drinks to see which one would work better for my film to be used as a prop.

The first drink that I poured into a cup to see how it looked was apple juice. I thought of using apple juice because it has a resemblance to beer. When I put the apple juice in the cup it did look close enough to be able to be used within my film to portray alcohol. This option may fit well for my project because when underage drinking is portrayed in films most individuals correlate beer as the type of alcohol drink to the teenagers who are drinking illegally within the film.

The second drink that I poured into a cup to see how it looked was cranberry juice. I had the idea because cranberry juice is red and it looks similar to wine. When I poured it out into the cup it did appear red and similar to wine but I decided not to choose this option and instead go with the apple juice as the drink to be used to portray alcohol. This is because in my opinion I think that wine is more associated with romantic settings which are not present within my film and apple juice that looks similar to beer may work better for my project because many films that portray teenage under age drinking usually portray these actions using fake beer instead of a drink that resembles something such as wine.

Within my film I will be using red cups to hold the apple juice because red cups are a common type of cup used in films that portray individuals drinking alcohol at party settings.
