Blog Post #23- Costuming decisions

When films are created, characters need to be in certain outfits for the purpose of making the film feel more realistic to the audience. If someone was working a formal job and was in casual clothing it wouldn't really make sense to an audience. Although my film only really requires basic costuming there were still some decisions that are needed to make sure that my film is realistic and appealing to the audience.

The costuming for the main character and all his friends will all be casual clothing that teenagers around their age wear. This will span from anything such as shorts, t shirts, jeans, and sweaters. I am using the choice of casual clothing because there is no formal environment that will be within any scenes in my film. Most coming of age films also use casual clothing choices for the same reasons that I have stated.

Within my film there will be a neighbor that will come to the main characters home, annoyed because of the music at the main characters home. Instead of using casual clothing choices I want this individual to be wearing pajama pants and slides. My reasoning behind this is because since the scene will be occurring at night the neighbor will be portrayed as waking up from the noise which then causes him to go over to the main characters house to complain. If I was to use casual clothing it would make the scene feel less realistic because it would seem as if the neighbor has not changed into a more comfortable outfit that can be associated with going to sleep. The pajama pants paired with the slides will make the scene feel more realistic because it puts emphasis on the fact that the neighbor has attempted to go to sleep.
