Blog Post #22- Slight Setting Change
When planning something, almost no one immediately creates perfect ideas and ideas usually have to go through some process of changing for the purpose of reaching satisfaction. I came up with a new idea to change the setting of the scene where the main character is thinking about his past actions to a setting of his backyard rather than room.
My reasoning behind this decision of the setting switch is because of the fact that I think that I can get more out of the outside setting rather than the bedroom. What I mean by this is that I can use a larger variety of camera angles outside while the bedroom would be limited to only certain camera angles. One idea that I had for the scene was to either use an over the shoulder shot of the character looking into the night sky or an eyeline match of the main character looking into the sky which then proceeds to the sky being shown. I think that if the scene contains the character looking into the sky then it could create a better representation of the emotions being experienced within the film.
The flaws that I found when considering the setting of the bedroom were that within the bedroom, the scenes may not put enough emphasis on emotion because I would only be able to show the character looking at things such as the roof or walls of the room which may not convey the emotions as much to the audience as I would like. This is the reason I wanted the character to look at the sky in the scene while they are outside because looking at the sky could convey more emotion then just looking at a wall as mentioned above. It would also be difficult to use shots such as over the shoulder shots because my bed is close to my wall which would make it hard to get the camera behind the character. Another flaw that would occur from the bedroom choice would be lighting. What I mean by this is that I would need to use some sort of artificial lighting on the character to make the character visible in the scene and I feel like this may make the scene seem less realistic while I can film the scene outside with the natural lighting from the dark sky which would make the scene feel more realistic to the audience.
