Blog Post #3- AS Opening Sequence Analysis

Before starting this current project, the previous year I created a 2 minute opening sequence to a film known as "The Arrest of D.L: James's Justice". I used many micro elements to create that project and I feel as if some of the micro elements used can be incorporated into my new project while others may not due to the difference in the genre of the films.

Within my past project, I used eyeline matches for the purpose of showing the audience what the characters were looking at. This is a technique that I feel could be used in my new project because of the universal usage that is provided with the simplicity of the eyeline match. Low angle shots were also used to make D.L appear more menacing to the audience. I don't think that low angle shots will be used in my new project because of the lack of need to make a character appear menacing within my new project. Tracking shots were another micro element that was used to show the audience the path D.L was taking while invading a home. I think that tracking shots will be incorporated into my short film for the same purpose as it was used in my past film.

Suspenseful score was used within my past film for the purpose of invoking an emotion of suspense within the audience as they wonder if D.L will successfully rob the house or if he will get caught. While I don't think I will be using score that is suspenseful, I will definitely be using score within my new project to invoke certain emotions within the audience as they are watching the film. High key lighting is used at the end of my opening sequence on James's face for the purpose of showing the audience that James has a plan for justice against D.L and doesn't plan to forget the events that have happened. This is another element that could be used within my new project for the purpose of invoking a happy mood within the audience when the main character changes his ways.
