Blog Post #1- Final Project Idea

My idea for my final project will be a short film that portrays an individual who makes bad choices in life. These bad choices will then lead the character on a bad path where he then realizes the mistake he is making and decides that it is time for a change to occur. When considering my film idea I had to think of a meaning that the audience of the short film could grab after watching. The meaning that I decided my short film would portray would be that people are defined by who they are around and associate with. Within my short film the character will originally be shown associating himself with other individuals who make bad choices. After the character comes to the realization that he is on the wrong path and has been picking up bad habits from the people he hangs out with he will then create an environment of individuals who make better choices and will then start to adopt these good habits that his friends possess.

 Within my short film, I want to use both low natural lighting and high natural lighting. I will do this by filming some scenes during the day time and some scenes during the night time. The scenes that will be filmed with low natural lighting will be before the main character comes to the realization that he is on the wrong path. The scenes that will be filmed with high natural lighting will be scenes after the main character comes to this realization and changes his way of doing certain things. I will use over the shoulder shots within conversations to make the audience feel as if they are included in the conversation. Mid shots will also be used to show the audience the body language of the characters within a scene. The mise en scene will be casual clothing that is stereotypical for a teenager to wear. This is because of the casual environment that will be expressed within my short film that does not require formal clothing.
